Giant Swallowtail Butterfly On Zinnias

(Papilio cresphontes) 

This most magnificent of butterflies has the ugliest of caterpillars. Camouflage is their main form of defense. Rather than blending in with the leaves or flowers like some other caterpillars, these little guys instead choose to make themselves as unappealing as possible by resembling bird poop.
